Zeiss LSM880 with Airyscan FAST

Zeiss LSM880 with Airyscan FAST, a high-end confocal laser scanning system with a patented Airyscan high-resolution detector, which gives 1.7 fold improvement of optical resolution in X-Y and Z directions (obtained by Maureen Barr’s lab in July 2018). Built on an inverted Observer Z7 microscope stand and equipped with a high-precision motorized X-Y and Z stage with Piezo Z-drive, the system delivers much improved confocal imaging in fundamental imaging elements, sensitivity, speed and resolution. In addition to the Airyscan detector, the system has four other detectors, a Quasar detector for efficient spectral imaging/linear unmixing, a transmission light detector for brightfield imaging (T-PMT) and two standard PMT detectors. “Airyscan Fast module” delivers 4 times faster acquisition speed (up to 100 fps) and resolution improvement (1.5 fold) while minimizing photobleaching in live cell imaging. The available objectives are EC Plan-Neofluar 10x/0.3 NA, C. Apochromat 40x/1.2 NA, water-immersion and Plan Apochromat 63x/1.4 NA, oil-immersion. The available lasers include 7 lines of excitation wavelength, 405, 458, 488, 514, 561, 594 and 633 nm to accommodate a variety of fluorophores and fluorescent proteins. The microscope is equipped with an environment enclosure and an incubation chamber for humidity/temperature/CO2 control. The system runs on Zen Black software with a streaming workstation with Zen Blue software for image processing for Airyscan super resolution.
